Evaluation: What have you learned from your audience feedback?

I used audience feedback for research into my ancillary products and after I had produced my music video and both ancillary products. I constructed a questionnaire for my target audience of females aged 15-25 to answer so that I could gain information which I could then use when it came for me to produce my ancillary products. I published the questionnaire on Facebook allowing my target audience to complete it. I showed the results of the questionnaire in the form of a Powerpoint presentation:-
research Questionnaire

I found the results of my questionnaire practically helpful in identifying the conventions of both my ancillary products. It also allowed me to know what format of CD avert my target audience finds more effective. This was a whole A4 page which I consequently used in my CD advert.

After I had produced my music video I uploaded it onto Youtube and then from Youtube onto my Facebook where I received my audience feedback. The feedback I received was mainly positive, for example ‘I like how you've used colour to show the contrast between the different time periods. And the superimposition effect of Owen disappearing = amazing.’ This was reiterated through many of the audience feedback. The feedback showed me that the themes I included in the music of the used of black and white clips to differentiate from the past and present, this is also true of the fading out shots to show that Owen was no longer alive. The emotive feelings I wanted to portray throughout the music was also picked up on in my audience feedback ‘it’s made me feel sad :'( that’s how believable it is’. The video also received 11 'likes', which’s shows the positive response the video obtained. The one piece of constrictive criticism I received was ‘maybe the only negative comment I can make is your facial expressions in relation to what you're saying when you're lip synching.’ This is a minor criticism as it relates to acting skill and not the constriction of the video itself.

The feedback I have received on youtube is more limited than Facebook as it is such a large website with thousands of videos uploaded a day. Youtube also works by the scribers and I have no had the time to build up a fan base to view my video. The feedback I have received from Youtube has been positive with 64 views in the last 4 days it has been uploaded. It has also received 3 'likes' and one comment saying ‘very good :)’.

I am happy with the feedback and ‘likes’ my music video has received. It shows a positive reaction for a wide target audience through the two websites. This is important as the primary goal of a music video is to entice the audience and engage with them to purchase the single.

The comments I received about my digipack front cover were positive, talking about the symbolism of the flower being the only thing in colour and the overall look. As well as this I received constructive criticism about my digipack back cover. These comments were: ‘perhaps change the numbers of the heart around so they're clockwise and not anti’ and ‘normally on albums, I tend to find the title song is the second track, not the first.’ I found the constrictive criticism very helpful as it allowed me to alter my product so that it looks more authentic and appeal more to my target audience.

The comments I received about my CD advert were mainly positive, such as ‘the flower effect is absolutely great, it’s like a source of light, source of hope perhaps. it has a stunning effect!’ and ‘I think the flower looks really good and the whole pose and stuff fits in with the theme of the song :) like the contrast between the black and white background and yellow flower’. These comments are very pleasing as it shows that my target audience can see the reasoning of why I have constructed my advert in the given way. I received one piece of constructive criticism about my advert and this was: ‘i think the colour of the text at the bottom could do with some colour changing to make it more visible’. I looked into using the constrictive criticism given but the visibly did not alter at the issue was the reflection of the sun light. To change this i would have had to retake the whole picture.

Overall, I am happy with the feedback I have received for all of my three products as the positive comments show that my products are being received in the way I have intended then to be, and I was able to use the constructive criticism to improve my products.
